“The buffalo chicken melt at Mingle was so good in the first quarter, but then they replaced it with a ham and cheese melt,” Spencer Westbrook, Cal Poly freshman said, thinking of the ever-changing dining options.
Navigating campus dining is a special aspect of the freshman experience, from late-night food runs to beloved meals going missing.
In addition to well-known restaurants like Subway, Einstein Bros., Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, and Shake Smart, Cal Poly has a number of dining options, such as
Vista Grande,
1901 Marketplace, Campus Market, and more. Although Cal Poly strives to provide a variety of culinary options, the actual experience may seem constrained.
“The variety sounds good on paper, but in reality, it gets old fast,” said Westbrook, an environmental management and protection major.
The existing selection frequently relies too much on processed or fast-food options, he added, and as someone who has been used to a range of meal options at home, he craves more diversity and healthier options.
